Speeding up the Citrix Web Interface and Desktop Director load times

Posted on Posted in Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop

The Citrix Web Interface and the XenDeskop Desktop Director are two components that end users and helpdesk employees can use to access their workplace and tooling.

Citrix web components, like the Web Interface and the XenDeskop Desktop Director, use IIS 7 to host their websites. IIS 7 uses the .NET Framework to display content. For example, Citrix Web Interface 5.4 uses the .NET Framework 2.

The .NET Framework, like version 2, use runtime elements. Older versions of the .NET Framework have elements that do not function correctly.

When using .NET Framework 2 the element generatePublisherEvidence is default enabled.
This element has a negative effect on assembly load times. And this has effect on how long it takes to display the Citrix Web Interface and the XenDesktop Desktop Director.

To speed up the load time of the Citrix web components, and to fasten the One moment please wait time on the Citrix Web Interface;

We can safely disable the generatePublisherEvidence element.

Open the IIS management console SNAGHTMLc0a5bf
Edit the Application Pool of the CitrixWebInterface5.4.0AppPool image
Check the .NET version that is being used. image
Now open%WINDIR%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\<dotnet framework version>\aspnet.config

in an elevated notepad.

Add the rule
<generatePublisherEvidence enabled=”false”/>
The last step is to recycle (restart) the application pool.

Check the websites to see that the load times has been reduced.

  1. This broke my Web Interface 5.4 server. When users logged in, the following error in the Application event log. “Failed to execute request because the App-Domain could not be created. Error: 0xc00ce502”. I Googled for a fix but couldn’t find one that worked. Any ideas how to fix this?

    1. Fixed it. The first attempt I copy & pasted the line into the config file. For some reason it failed. When I tried again by manually typing in the entry, it worked. Strange.

      1. Hi Rob,

        This is because of the quotation marks. There are two kinds: The virtical ones and the “Rounded” ones. The last one do not work.
        Also make sure that you use a editor like notepad.
