Sequencing Google Chrome 21.0.1180.89

Sequencing Google Chrome 21.0.1180.89 with App-V can be difficult because there are some pitfalls.
In this blog I am going to describe the steps necessary to make it work. I only describe the options to make the package work, not the complete steps to create a App-V package.

Download Google Chrome from here. This is an Enterprise edition of the Chrome browser.
Open the App-V Sequencer and open the options screen. On the General tab de-select “Allow Virtualization of Services”
On the Exclusion Items tab, add the following paths: VRG: \REGISTRY\USER\%SFT_SID%\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings VFS: %CSIDL_COMMON_APPDATA%\Microsoft\RAC %CSIDL_WINDOWS%\Microsoft.NET %CSIDL_WINDOWS%\Installer %CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILES%\Google\Update %CSIDL_WINDOWS%\Tasks
Open a command prompt and start the installation using: START /WAIT GoogleChromeStandaloneEnterprise.MSI ALLUSERS=TRUE /QB-
After the installation, enter: RD /Q /S “%ProgramFiles(X86)%\Google\Chrome\Application\21.0.1180.89\Installer”
Enter:ROBOCOPY “%ProgramFiles(X86)%\Google\Chrome\Application\21.0.1180.89” “%ProgramFiles(X86)%\Google\Chrome\Application” /mov /e
Enter: REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Google\Update /v AutoUpdateCheckPeriodMinutes /d 0 /t REG_SZ /f
Enter: REG ADD “HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager” /v PendingFileRenameOperations /d “” /t REG_MULTI_SZ /f
Open C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\master_preferences and enter the following text:{“homepage” : “http://www.google.nl”, “homepage_is_newtabpage” : false, “browser” : { “show_home_button” : true, “check_default_browser” : false, “window_placement”: { “bottom”: 1000, “left”: 10, “maximized”: false, “right”: 904, “top”: 10, “work_area_bottom”: 1010, “work_area_left”: 0, “work_area_right”: 1680, “work_area_top”: 0 } }, “bookmark_bar” : { “show_on_all_tabs” : true }, “distribution” : { “skip_first_run_ui” : true, “show_welcome_page” : false, “import_search_engine” : false, “import_history” : false, “create_all_shortcuts” : true, “do_not_launch_chrome” : true, “make_chrome_default” : false } }
When editing the shortcuts, change the startup parameter of chrome to:chrome.exe –disable-custom-jumplist –no-default-browser-check -–no-sandbox
After the package is ready, delete all the virtual services (if any exist).
Save the virtual package and test if it works.
